Ancestor worship - A trip to Tamberma country

The road north, from Lomé. 400km, a good part of track to swallow the reddish ocher dust, to meet Emilienne and her family in Tamberma country. A crossing of the country from the south, from the sea through the tropical forest of the plateaus, to the wooded savannah of the far north.
From the long history of Yves Regaldi with the Tambermas, and from this trip for three, which is also a matter of friendships, was born this exhibition project, to meet a people who are fighting to keep intact their habitat, its relationship to the land, its traditions, organized around the cult of ancestors. Yves Regaldi’s photographs, Corsin Vogel’s sounds and videos and Amélie Lavin’s story echo each other to draw together as many possible avenues opened up by these encounters.

This exhibition was hosted by Hedva Ser, UNESCO Artist for Peace and sponsor of the project, and the inauguration welcomed the participation of HE Mr. Antoni Marti, Prime Minister of the Principality of Andorra, who supported it, and HE Mr. Gilbert Saboya Sunyé, Minister for Foreign Affairs. The Director-General thanked the Principality of Andorra for its long-standing support for this initiative and for the strength of all of its partnership relations with UNESCO. Since 2008, under the patronage of UNESCO, Art Camp-Andorra has brought together more than 150 artists from all continents to allow them to express themselves, share their passion and engage with young people. “The message of this exhibition is central to UNESCO’s core ideas,” said Ms. Bokova. "It is the idea that art is a powerful form of dialogue, the belief that dialogue is essential for respect, human rights, dignity and peace. In these troubled times, I believe this message has never been more important. " The Director-General praised Hedva Ser for “her talent, her passion for peace, creativity and intercultural dialogue”. The Prime Minister, Mr. Antoni Marti, recalled that the Principality of Andorra was a land of welcome which embodied the values of Art Camp and welcomed a project that unites peoples of all cultures around the universal values of tolerance and of peace. “The United Nations should talk more about culture, and this exhibition is a step in that direction,” he said. Hedva Ser recalled the spirit of Art Camp, in which artists from five continents work together for 10 days, forging “new friendships, transcending differences through art and finding a common language of respect and shared goals. By building bridges, this initiative reflects UNESCO's mandate to build peace in reality, through art and intercultural dialogue " .
